The presence of large vineyards confirms the area of Criação Velha's suitability for producing quality wine. The flat area of lajido (fields of lava flows) with vines planted in enclosed plots, which stretches up the hillside as a patch that embraces the village and continues to advance to higher elevations, has a high scenic value reinforced by the presence of the mountain.
Here, the landscape is characterized by the abundance of private wineries, generally rectangular single-story buildings made of stone masonry and with traditional gable roofs covered with tiles. The oldest ones, dating back to the 18th/19th centuries, still contain the traditional wine presses and stills, some with an attached pot. They are essential apparatuses for the artisanal production of wine, spirits, and liqueurs.
