Folkloric Group of the Community Meeting House of Criação Velha

The Folkloric Group of the Community Meeting House of Criação Velha was founded in May 1992 and is one of the most recent collectives of this type created on the island of Pico. Its repertoire and costumes are based on the oldest traditions of the civil parish, which, throughout the centuries, and due to the nature of the soil and its proximity to the island of Faial, has developed its own characteristics, clearly expressed in several popular manifestations.
Their first album - 'Olh'ó Pico!' - compiled 11 folkloric dance songs, such as Chamarrita, Pezinho, or Sapateia, that reflect the essence of the islanders' soul as a cultural ode to the people of Pico. Rehearsals take place Mondays from 9:30 PM to 10:00 PM at the Casa do Povo da Criação Velha.
